IZA CALZADO — Kapamilya actress Iza Calzado recently revealed that she waited four years to announce her “Darna” project.
Iza will officially be part of the much-anticipated Kapamilya series “Darna” as ABS-CBN Head of TV Production Laurenti Dyogi recently shared the news in a virtual interview with the actress for her birthday.
According to Dyogi, he wanted to announce what exactly Iza will play but he didn’t want also to spoil the announcement. Dyogi also said that they promised that Iza will play a “dream role”, which he described as an important role for the actress and an important role in the series.
For her part, Iza said that she can’t wait any longer to hear the announcement. Iza shared that she had a meeting for the said project last 2017 and so she had been attached to the said project since then.

The “Darna” movie project started with Angel Locsin last 2015 with director Erik Matti. Angel backed out because of her back injury and passed on her role to Liza Soberano.
Unfortunately, Liza suffered her finger injury while shooting her primetime series “Bagani” which led to her backing out from the said project as well. It was last July 2019 when Star Cinema’s managing director Olivia Lamasan announced that actress Jane De Leon will be doing the said project.
Fast forward to 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit the world and ABS-CBN lost its franchise, ABS-CBN decided to make the said project a TV series instead. Iza was one of the actors that were tapped to be part of the said project four years ago.

According to her, she had been grateful since that moment and had done some trainings without giving out all the stuff and it felt like it’s been such a long journey to get here, adding that the role she’s going to play was more meaningful than what she could have played before.
Iza also explained that the said project was “important now more than ever” because people also need to recognize the hero inside all of them, “the Darna within, the hero within”.
Also, Dyogi expressed his gratitude to Iza for staying with ABS-CBN despite the loss of its franchise. He cited Iza’s effort together with the team of “Ang Sa ‘Yo ay Akin” in shooting the Kapamilya series in the middle of the pandemic surge in the country last year.
Meanwhile, De Leon will start taping for “Darna” after her exit in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”. ABS-CBN News reported that the Kapamilya series will air in 2022.
