On Sunday, Ben&Ben released their highly-anticipated 13-track album, which followed their debut release “Limasawa Street”. The said album featured all-Filipino songs that spoke about themes and emotions close to the heart.

During a press conference last Friday, Ben&Ben shared that the songs on their second album were like a “collective journal of thoughts, feelings, and memories” they had for the whole year.

Ben&Ben vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico said that the first few tracks in the album were “very playful” and “evoke emotion that comes with exploring freshness” because those tracks summed up how they’re before the pandemic and the first few months when all the members moved in together.

However, the other tracks in the album discussed deeper and heavier themes such as the power of a woman, moving on from a lost love, the feeling of suffocation, and Filipino identity.

Ben&Ben also shared that they chose to release their album in August to celebrate Buwan ng Wika, adding that even the last track on the album was a love song “to our identity as a Filipino” and to “the color of our skin,” the band said.

As to why the band chose the date “29”, Ben&Ben jokingly said that it was because of a miscalculation.

Ben&Ben vocalist Paolo Benjamin Guico said that they’re originally supposed to release their album on August 8 but vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico and percussionist Toni Muñoz told them that it’s not a feasible date.

Siguro halfway, mukhang hindi kakayanin August 8. Kaso nasabi nila ’yun na na-announce namin na August. Kumbaga ’yung August 29, ’yun ’yung touch move. August pa rin!” Paolo said.
