Iloilo City was aiming to be recognized as a “gastronomic hotspot” via UNESCO bid.
Iloilo City was aiming to be recognized as a “gastronomic hotspot” by formally submitting its bid for the Creative City of Gastronomy to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Iloilo City was where the La Paz batchoy and the pancit Molo originated.
According to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, he’s hopeful for strong global promotions once the city would be included in UNESCO’s coveted citation, which was one of seven creative fields that also included Design, Crafts and Folk Art, Literature, Film, Media Arts, and Music.
Treñas also said that the city was passionate to offer its culinary assets in order to “suit every discriminating palate”.
“Iloilo City is a gastronomic hotspot waiting to be explored, experienced, and enjoyed. The City of Love is passionate to offer its culinary assets to suit every discriminating palate,” he said in his letter to the UNESCO Creative City Network (UCCN) Secretariat based in Paris, France.

Different plans have been identified for advocacy awareness and appreciation, innovations, and initiatives for implementation in order to boost the gastronomy industry.
Treñas added that the Ilonggo community was confident that clinching the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy will “continue to guide us in achieving our goals of growth, progress, and sustainable development”.
Created in 2004, the UNESCO Creative City Network fostered international cooperation within and across cities that have invested in creativity and culture as an accelerator of sustainable development.
