Trillanes said that he’s “prepared not to run” in the coming 2022 elections.
On Monday, Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said that he’s “prepared not to run” in the coming 2022 elections as his decision was “hinged” on the decision of Vice President Leni Robredo.
Robredo and Trillanes were among the six nominees of 1Sambayan for president and vice president, along with Senator Grace Poe, Representatives Vilma Santos-Recto and Eduardo Villanueva, and lawyer Chel Diokno.
Trillanes told CNN Philippines in an interview that his decision to run for any office was “hinged” on the decision of Vice President Robredo.
“Now, on the assumption that she gets picked as the presidential nominee of 1Sambayan, then it is her prerogative to choose her running mate. I’m prepared not to run at all and just push for her candidacy, but if she would tap me as her running mate, then I’d be ready for it,” Trillanes said.
Vice President Robredo has yet to decide if she’ll seek the presidency next year.

Earlier, Trillanes underscored that 1Sambayan was the only way for the opposition to secure a victory in 2022.
Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque wished the 1Sambayan nominees “the best” while saying that the opposition coalition was facing an uphill battle.
“I wish them the best kaso mukhang mahirap talaga ang kausa ng 1Sambayan kasi karamihan ng na-nominate [ay] tumanggi,” Roque said.
