According to Sotto, President Duterte said that face shields “should only be used in hospitals”.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III said President Rodrigo Duterte agreed that face shields “should only be used in hospitals“.
Sotto, who was in a meeting with President Duterte in Malacañang last Wednesday night, posted a tweet saying that the President had agreed that face shields should only be worn inside hospitals.
“Last night, the President agreed that face shields should only be used in hospitals. Allowed us to remove ours! [Attention] DOH (Department of Health)!,” Sotto said in a post on his Twitter account.

When asked if President Duterte said that he would direct the government’s pandemic task force to adjust the protocols on face shields, Sotto told INQUIRER.net “Something like that. I remember him (Duterte) saying he will tell DOH.”
In a separate interview, he recalled what happened during the said meeting. According to Sotto, the Philippines was the only country using face shields in the world.

Prior to this, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified the policy on wearing face shields in the country, saying that wearing it in specific settings “has always been the standing policy”.
Vergeire made the clarification after DOH Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega said that the public may remove their face shields outdoors.
