GAB – Dominador “Domeng” R. Cepeda, Jr., a former chairman of the Games and Amusements Board passed away on Sunday at the age of 86.
Domeng became the head of GAB from 1994 until July 2001 under presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada.
In his term as the head of the said agency, the country became the host of the World Boxing Council at the Manila Hotel on July 4-6, 1996.
He also led the title defenses of Luisito Espinosa at the Rizal Park for the WBC featherweight belts in 1996 and 1997.
Domeng Cepeda was also the Philippines’ representative in boxing organizations; WBC and the WBA.
He was then elected as president of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation while being the chairman of GAB.
After his tenure at GAB, he became the legal counsel of WBC Asia in 2001.
Meanwhile, GAB chairman Baham Mitra has issued a statement following the death of Cepeda.
“We recognize his efforts and invaluable contributions to the growth of professional sports in the Philippines. He is truly an inspiration and his memory will live on forever.,” he said.
