Felipe Antonio Remollo, the mayor of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
According to him, he was asymptomatic and currently under self-isolation.
The Dumaguete mayor underwent swab testing as a requirement for the National Peace and Order Council.
The event takes place on Monday which will be presided by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The meeting with President Duterte will push through as scheduled and Dumaguete City will be ably represented in said event,” he said.
Despite he is in quarantine, he will continue working.
“I fervently hope that this will serve as something to seriously reflect on even to those who are religious in observing the basic protocols,” he said.
“COVID-19 is by far the most treacherous of all viruses. It unwittingly strikes when one is in the company of friends, family and co-workers,” he added.
Dumaguete City has recorded 884 COVID0-19 cases as of Monday of which 170 are active while 38 have died.
Meanwhile, with the rapid increase of coronavirus disease 2019 cases, leaders of different nations are doing their all in order to combat the spread of the deadly virus which started in Wuhan, China in 2019.
COVID-19 is characterized by flu-like symptoms such as fever, difficulty in breathing, cough, and other respiratory problems but a patient may also be positive for the disease even without showing any signs.
Among the safety protocols that everyone must observe are the following; social/physical distancing, wearing masks especially in public places, and using disinfectant from time to time if possible.
