Domingo: FDA No Authority Over Lawmakers In Ivermectin Distribution

The FDA has no authority over lawmakers in the distribution of Ivermectin capsules, according to Domingo.

On Wednesday, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said that the Food and Drug Administration has no authority over lawmakers in the distribution of Ivermectin capsules.

The FDA has no authority over lawmakers in the distribution of Ivermectin capsules, according to Domingo.

Domingo said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum that the FDA has no disciplinary authority over lawmakers who distributed ivermectin capsules despite lack of evidence that the said drug can treat patients with COVID-19.

Yes. It’s a separate branch of government,” Domingo said when told that only Congress has the power to implement sanctions on its members.

Sagip party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta and Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor distributed Ivermectin capsules despite repeated warnings from health authorities and groups that it hasn’t been proven to be effective against COVID-19.

A house-to-house distribution of Ivermectin capsules, according to Defensor, will also be done in order to prevent mass gathering.

Told about the Ivermectin distribution plan, Domingo cited the need to determine if there were regulations and laws violated.

There are legal ways of treating a patient, but you have to prescribe properly and the medicine has to be dispensed properly. And the patient has to be made aware what the medicine is and what the possible effects are. Medicine is very apolitical and treatment of patients should be very scientifically based and based on evidence,” Domingo said.

The Food and Drug Administration was investigating reports that doctors wrote prescriptions on a blank bond paper instead of on prescription pads under the Ivermectin distribution project of Marcoleta and Defensor.
