In his pre-recorded public address, President Duterte said that he’s happy with the country’s ranking in terms of vaccination.

Maganda ang record natin despite unfounded criticisms. To think that people were almost in a quandary where to get the next vaccination. Nakita niyo naman na hindi pala tayo yung pinaka mahina. It goes to show that we are working really hard, especially Secretary Galvez, to get the vaccines here in the Philippines on time although it’s not as fast as people would like to expect,” President Duterte said.

President Duterte made his statement after Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez reported that the Philippines was third among Southeast Asian countries in vaccinating its citizens.

Likewise, President Duterte was glad about the vaccination of healthcare workers in the Philippines, the priority in the national government’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

However, Galvez’s presentation in the same meeting showed that only 965,960 healthcare workers in the Philippines had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as the national government’s target was 1.7 million healthcare workers.

Based on Galvez’s presentation, the national government had inoculated 1,279,223 Filipinos and 1,477,757 COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the country. The Philippines rolled out its COVID-19 vaccination program on March 1, 2021.

In terms of COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the country ranked 41st out of 173 countries, ranked 14th out of 47 countries in Asia, and 3rd among 10 ASEAN countries.

Galvez also said that the bulk of the country’s vaccine orders were expected to arrive in the Philippines in the third quarter of the year.
