Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto gave a reaction about the use of Ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto recently gave his reaction about the use of Ivermectin on patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
During a virtual press conference of the Department of Health (DOH), Mayor Vico was asked about his take on the use of Ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.
Mayor Vico had encouraged the public to listen to medical experts and not to Ivermectin conspiracy theorists who were pushing for the use of the said drug.
According to him, little proof wasn’t enough to prove that the said drug can also be fit for humans as well.
“Alam ninyo, ‘yung mga gamot na tina-take natin na prine-prescribe ng mga doctor, dumadaan ‘yan sa matinding proseso. Hindi iyan basta-basta. So, just because there is a little bit of positive news or little bit of possibility, or may nakitang kaunting scientific basis, hindi iyon sapat para sabihing, okay na iyan, puwede na iyan. Hindi tayo mga doctor, hindi tayo medical experts, makinig tayo sa mga eksperto,” Mayor Vico said.

Mayor Vico’s statement came after Anakalusugan Party-list Representative Mike Defensor and SAGIP Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta distributed the said drug despite stern warnings from health experts and government agencies.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there’s no registered Ivermectin for human use and warned that the said drug can cause serious harm to humans.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the Food and Drug Administration must investigate reports of Ivermectin prescriptions written on bond paper amidst distribution of the said drug in Quezon City.
