In a report on Manila Bulletin, 69 groups of Robredo supporters will serve a filling meal of “lugaw” in different communities nationwide to celebrate Robredo’s upcoming birthday.

Jover Laurio — known as the blogger behind “Pinoy Ako Blog” who supported the Vice President — said that the #volunteersforleni organized Friday’s “lugaw” feeding program.

“Dati sabi ko sana maka 56 Team(s) kami sa community feeding. Kasi nga gift naming mga #volunteersforleni sa 56th birthday ni VP Leni Robredo sa April 23. But now we are 69 Teams,” she said in her Facebook post.

As of Monday morning, another Robredo supporter from Cubao, Quezon City, also joined the initiative as his team pledged “lugaw” for 1,000 beneficiaries.

Trolls had long been calling Robredo “Leni Lugaw” or “Lugaw Queen” in social media. Robredo’s derisive nickname was born out of the photos of her campaign team selling “lugaw” that spread online during the 2016 elections.

Jover likened the overwhelming support of volunteers on the “lugaw” feeding program to the “community pantry” that had opened in more areas in order to provide food and groceries to the needy.

The said feeding program aimed to show support as well as to heed Robredo’s call to raise funds and to do community work in order to help people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic instead of spending on streamers for her yet unsure 2022 Presidential bid.

For Vice President Leni Robredo, responding to the coronavirus crisis remained to be a priority.

Heeding her call, the groups will provide “lugaw” to the needy in Bulacan, Cebu, Iloilo, Batangas, Rizal, Isabela, Basilan, Cavite, Masbate, Maguindanao, Antique, Laguna, and some cities in the National Capital Region, among others.
