The DOH appealed to senior citizens not to go out of their houses to line up in community pantries.
The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday appealed to senior citizens not to go out of their houses to line up in community pantries.
In a report on GMA News Online, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Saturday appealed to senior citizens not to go out of their respective houses to line up in community pantries.
“We are on (modified enhanced community quarantine) so sana walang mga matatandang lumalabas muna para mapangalagaan,” Vergeire said at a Laging Handa public briefing.
Vergeire made the appeal after a senior citizen died while waiting in line at Angel Locsin’s community pantry in Quezon City.

Under the modified enhanced community quarantine, senior citizens 65 years old and above — along with people ages 18 years old and below, with comorbidity, immunodeficiency, or other health risks, and pregnant women — were still not allowed to go out of their houses.
Vergeire also said that the benefits of community pantries could be highlighted without sacrificing health protocols against the coronavirus disease.
Local government officials, according to Vergeire, should always stress the importance of observing physical distancing and wearing face masks.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government on Friday encouraged organizers of community pantries to coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and local government units (LGU) in order to ensure that safety and health protocols were observed in the distribution of assistance.
