Solon Wants “Instant Sanctions” Against Local Officials Skipping Vaccine Priority List

SOLON WANTS INSTANT SANCTIONS – According to Quezon City Rep. Previous Hipolito Castelo, a show cause order is not enough for violators of the vaccination priority list.

Recently, five mayors were heavily criticized for already receiving a vaccine against COVID-19 ahead of frontliners. As such, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) called out the local officials and demanded them to present a show cause order.

However, according to Castelo, this would not be enough. Instead, she wanted “instant sanctions” to set an example to potential violators. Based on an article from Inquirer, she said:

Show cause orders and citations of law or rules are not enough. We should have instant sanctions for vaccine queue jumpers and those with command responsibility for violations to set the example for all concerned and the general public

The Rep. also emphasized that there is a clear perception that merely the small fry violators get penalized instantly. However, when it comes to high-ranking officials, the law seemed to bend for them, she added.

Meanwhile, as a response to earlier criticisms, some Mayors explained that they merely took a spot as a substitute from those who didn’t want to get vaccinated. But, Castelo doesn’t believe this to be genuine.

As per the article, she said:

That’s just an alibi. There are many doctors, nurses, other medical practitioners, and hospital personnel who are willing to take the vaccine to protect themselves
