Russia was eyeing to manufacture Gamaleya Research Institute’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines.
In a report on CNN Philippines, the company that funded the production of Sputnik V said that they were also eyeing to manufacture the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines.
Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev told CNN Philippines’ News Night that they’re currently in the final negotiation process, adding that the production can start within the next 4 to 5 months if an agreement was established.
Currently, Sputnik V was being manufactured in countries such as China, Brazil, India, and South Korea.
Dmitriev also said that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine was efficient against the COVID-19 variant first detected in the UK, while its efficacy against the COVID-19 variant from South Africa will be released in the next weeks.
He noted that it showed “very high efficacy” so far.

Moreover, Dmitriev said that there’s a partnership with AstaZeneca in order to make its COVID-19 vaccine doses more efficient, an approach seen to be vital in fighting future COVID-19 variants.
Gamaleya’s Sputnik V was the fourth COVID-19 vaccine to be granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
On Friday, FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine can only be administered to clinically healthy individuals aged 18 years old and above.
However, Dmitriev said that they already started testing Gamaleya’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine on children and the results will be available in the following months.
