PH COVID-19 Variant Found In England, Case Linked To Int’l Travel
PH COVID-19 VARIANT IN ENGLAND – Public Health England (PHE) investigated two cases of a variant first found in the Philippines.
Recently, the Philippines reported a coronavirus variant unique to the Philippines dubbed as P.3. However, the Department of Health said that it doesn’t want to call it the “Philippine Variant” to avoid discrimination.

However, the variant has already been found in other countries such as Japan and England. According to the PHE, one of the cases was linked to international travel. Meanwhile, the other was still being investigated.
Additionally, health authorities from England also reported two new cases of the P.1 COVID-19 variant initially found in Brazil. As such, this totals the number of the Brazilian strains in England to 12.
Likewise, Japanese health authorities also detected the new strain from the Philippines. Meanwhile, the Philippines had recorded 13 new P.3 variants totaling to 98 cases as of March 13.
Studies suggested that the P.3 variant shared the same contagiousness as the Brazilian and UK Strains. However, further studies are required to see if the P.3. strain is as resistant to vaccines.
