Sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) would provide AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in time for its 46th season.

In a report on Inquirer, Pangilinan — a business tycoon who owned three PBA franchises in Meralco, Talk ’N Text, and NLEX — was expected to donate 3,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses for 1,500 members of the PBA family.

PBA board vice chair Bobby Rosales on Tuesday said in a press conference that they’re grateful to Pangilinan for looking after the welfare of the players of all teams and their dependents.

We are very grateful to MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan) for really looking after the welfare of the players of all teams and their dependents. So anytime that those vaccines arrive this will be offered and given to the players and their dependents,” Rosales said.

A total of 487,200 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived in the Philippines last Thursday while an additional 38,400 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine followed.

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses were from the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility, which promised 525,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Philippines.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe on Tuesday said that they expected Pfizer to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to the Philippines “in late March or in April”.
