In a report on GMA News Online, Galvez said that the Philippines was in talks with the Serum Institute of India (SII) in order to study the possibility of local vaccine production.

Galvez, who recently returned to the Philippines from India wherein he signed a deal for 30 million Novavax COVID-19 vaccine doses, said in a briefing that the Philippines can take its cue from its Asian neighbor on how to locally produce vaccines.

According to Galvez, they spoke with the Serum Institute of India in order to study the possibility of bringing back the country’s capability to produce its own vaccines, adding that the Serum Institute of India had 136 scientists and they wanted to help the Philippines produce own vaccines.

The Serum Institute of India was considered the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer and was also the main supplier of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
