DOH Secretary Duque Urges Health Workers to Get Sinovac Shots
DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III is convincing the health workers to get COVID-19 vaccine shots using China’s Sinovac.
On Monday (March 1, 2021), Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is urging the health workers to get inoculated by Sinovac vaccine shots despite the public’s doubt about its quality. The first shipment of the vaccines arrived last weekend.
The CoronaVac shots have been donated by China to the Philippines. The Philippine government immediately rolled out the vaccines to the health workers and government officials.
Duque explained that the Sinovac is 100 percent effective against severe COVID-19 infection although its efficacy rate is 50 percent when it comes if mild infection. He also said that it similar to other vaccine brands such as Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna and AstraZeneca.
“Hinihikayat ko po ang ating health care workers na hangga’t sa maaari po ay magpabakuna po tayo gamit ang Sinovac… Dapat lang na maniwala tayo na itong bakunang ito ay tunay na epektibo at makatutulong sa pag-iwas sa malubha o matinding COVID-19 infection,” Duque said.
The health secretary noted that it is more important to prevent the increasing death toll due to COVID-19. Philippine Foundation for Vaccination executive director Dra. Lulu Bravo supports Duque’s statement.
However, Alliance of Health Workers national president Robert Mendoza said that some health workers do not want to get Sinovac shots.
