Apocalyptic Smog Covers Beijing Raising Air Pollution To Hazardous Heights
APOCALYPTIC SMOG COVERS BEIJING – A thick yellow smog engulfed Beijing on Monday raising air pollution levels to hazardous heights.
Because of this, residents used googles, masks, and hairnets in an attempt to shield themselves from the deadly air. Furthermore, in areas with well known landmarks, the city looked like it was in an apocalyptic state.
As such, the city government immediately cancelled all school activity and outside sports and events. Moreover, those with respiratory ailments were urged to stay inside.
According to an article from Inquirer, the hazardous air quality stemmed from a sandstorm from northern Mongolia. Additionally, strong winds carried the sand south to Beijing.
The aftermath reduced visibility in Beijing to less than 1,000 meters (3,300 feet). Meanwhile on Chinese social media, netizens are drawing comparisons to the apocalyptic scenes from “Interstellar”. “This orange red sandstorm makes it look like the end of the world”, one Weibo user said.
