Apple AirTags first leaked online last August 2019 through a patent filing, with the leak detailing the basic functionality of the said device.
It was a location tracking device and was expected to pair seamlessly with a host tablet or smartphone.
In addition, Appple had placed an emphasis on the functionality of the multi-interface transponder (MIT) device in the said patent.
The multi-interface transponder (MIT) device was described as a “portable” and “compact” gadget with a simple processor, radio stack, light and motion sensors, and power core.
It can even be attached to different objects like keys, wallets, and IDs. In other words, it was a small location tracking device that can track down users’ important belongings or even smartphones when paired with an iPhone or iPad, for instance.
