Parents Should Bring Own Car Seat When Riding Taxis – Law Author

Parents Should Bring Their Own Car Seat When Traveling With Kids Via Taxi

PARENTS SHOULD BRING OWN CAR SEAT – Ensuring child safety is the number one priority of the Republic Act 11229 or Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act. However, many say that the provisions are getting out of hand.

Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) implemented a new car seat law. With this, children under the age of 12 cannot be allowed to sit in front of a vehicle. Furthermore, parents should install a car seat for children below the age threshold.

As such, many find this law outrageous and unnecessary. However, supporters of the law emphasize that this could only apply if a child is below 4’11.

Still, more news regarding the controversial law comes forth during a recent interview with former Sen. JV Ejercito, the principal author. On Friday, Ejercito said that taxi drivers wouldn’t have car seats installed in their vehicles.

So, he noted that parents may be required to bring their own when they want to commute via taxis. During an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, Ejercito said:

“Siguro ‘pag meron kayong sanggol, mas maganda meron na rin ho kayong car seat.. Siyempre hindi naman natin siguro mai-eexpect na ang mga taxis ay meron silang car seat.

Sana po preferably meron na po (car seat) ‘yong parents na sasakay ng halimbawa Grab or taxi.

Furthermore, violators of the law may be fined up to P5,000 and a 1-year driver’s license suspension.
