CBCP Announces How Devotees Can Celebrate Ash Wednesday Amid COVID Pandemic

ASH WEDNESDAY – The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced how devotees can still celebrate ash Wednesday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

During this pandemic, several restrictions and compromises were imposed especially in the religious sectors. However, Bishop Broderick Pabillo said that Ash Wednesday could still be celebrated inside churches.

He said that devotees need only to apply proper health protocols and physical distancing. Furthermore, he said that there would be several masses held so that people won’t flock to just one mass.

Meanwhile, he said that the traditional acceptance of the ash would be done through sprinkling of the ash on the head instead.

“Sa pagtanggap ng abo, isang dasal lang para sa lahat saka bubudburan sila sa bunbunan ng abo”.

Furthermore, there could also be lay ministers that could go outside and sprinkle the ash to those who can’t get inside the church.

Puwede rin gawin ‘yun. Desisyon na ‘yan ng bawat parokya kasi ang bawat parokya iba iba ang sitwasyon nila“.
