Here’s how an ordinary police checkpoint turned into an unexpected-but-planned wedding proposal on Valentine’s Day at Don Salvador Benedicto in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Red Paper Studios shared photos and a video on its Facebook page wherein Rodjohn proposed to Naicel during a police checkpoint last February 14, 2021.

According to Rodjohn, he and Naicel — both from Sagay, Negros Occidental — planned to settle down prior to COVID-19. However, Rodjohn said that he planned to propose to Naicel on their anniversary but it took a while for the ring to arrive since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) came.

Rodjohn also shared that he coordinated with police officers and his co-riders and started planning for the proposal, which happened last February 14. He also shared that he informed his parents and Naicel’s parents and relatives about his plan.

Then February 14 came.

While they’re doing Sunday rides along with the group of riders in the town of Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental, some police officers flagged them and searched for documents.

According to Naicel, she thought it was normal when she saw the police officers at the checkpoint and she also knew that her partner’s documents were completed — including his driver’s license and OR/CR.

Naicel’s nervousness started when police officers said that Rodjohn had a pending warrant of arrest, alleging a collision. Police officers then made Rodjohn kneel while allegedly verifying his record.

With this, Naicel was trying to contact her relatives. But when she did, she was surprised when she saw the signage “Will you marry me?”

Naicel then smiled when she saw it because according to her, she had no idea about the proposal at the moment.

After the proposal, Rodjohn thanked those who helped him in making his proposal successful — especially to his riders friends, Naicel’s family, and the police officers in the area.
