In an interview on CNN-Philippines Senator Gordon said that the Philippine Red Cross had set a goal — to vaccinate 1 million Filipinos with a COVID-19 vaccine.

Senator Gordon also said that they had vaccinated one million Filipinos against measles and polio last year.

Ang goal namin one million [vaccines]. ‘Yan ang pinag-usapan namin ng aking mga staff kasama ang mga doktor namin. Nagba-vaccinate kami sa measles and polio. One million ang nagawa namin last year. We can do that. Doon na lang kami, magba-vaccinate na lang kami ng let’s say a million people,” he added.

However, Senator Gordon said that PhilHealth inability to settle its multi-million debt for COVID-19 testing on time was quite a hindrance in pursuing the said endeavor.

Senator Gordon also said that international donors for the potential vaccination program to be led by the Philippine Red Cross may also raise an eyebrow on the issue of unsettled balances of the state health insurer.

Moreover, Senator Gordon said that the Department of Health should ensure systematic implementation of the vaccination program against COVID-19 in the Philippines, emphasizing that this wouldn’t only be limited to distribution but also training of personnel and proper storage of COVID-19 vaccines.
