Russian Presidents Have Lifetime Immunity After Putin Signs New Bill

Putin Signs Bill Giving Russian Presidents Lifetime Immunity

LIFETIME IMMUNITY – Russian President Vladimir Putin gave himself and the next line of presidents lifetime immunity when they leave the office.

The bill, published Tuesday, gave former presidents and their families full immunity from prosecution for crimes done during their entire life. Furthermore, they will be exempted from the police investigation, searches, and arrests.

Additionally, the legislation was included in a constitutional amendment which was approved this summer. Moreover, these changes allowed Putin to remain in power until 2036.

Previously, former Presidents were immune to crimes done while still in power. As such, previous presidents are not invulnerable.

If a previous president was found guilty of treason or other grave crimes, the Supreme and Constitutional court can still strip them of immunity.

However, with Putin’s newly signed bill, it will add presidents a lifetime spot in the Federation Council or senate. This position grants immunity from prosecution the moment they leave their post as president.
