PhilHealth To Collect Higher Membership Contributions Starting 2021

PhilHealth would collect higher membership contributions starting 2021

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Tuesday night announced that the agency would collect higher membership contributions starting 2021.

This, as PhilHealth said that this was in line with the imposition of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the state health insurer said that the agency was imposing the scheduled contribution rate and adjustment in income ceiling for 2021 in order to ensure sufficient funding for the health care benefits of the agency’s 110 million members as mandated by the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law or Republic Act No. 11223.

Members earning below PHP 10,000 per month would pay PHP 350 per month and those members earning PHP 10,000.01 to PHP 69,999.99 would pay a monthly premium between PHP 350 to PHP 2,449.99.

Meanwhile, the contribution of those members earning PHP 70,000 or higher was fixed at PHP 2,450.

According to PhilHealth, the contributions of employed members — including Kasambahays — shall be equally shared between employers and employees, while those of self-paying members, land-based migrant workers, professional practitioners, and other direct contributors without an employee-employer relationship were being computed straight based on their monthly earnings and paid wholly by the member.

PhilHealth also said that the law emphasized the importance of members’ social health insurance contributions in order to provide the necessary funding for different reforms under the Universal Health Care that were currently being availed of by Filipinos.

PhilHealth fully recognizes the current pandemic situation that is taking its toll on many businesses and livelihood of many Filipinos. However, it is bound to implement the UHC Law which has been the beacon and source of hope for the country that is aiming for better healthcare services even as it battles the Coronavirus Disease 2019,” PhilHealth said.
