Palace: President Duterte To Veto Some Items In Proposed National Budget For 2021

President Duterte would veto several items in the proposed national budget for 2021, according to Malacañang.

Malacañang on Friday said that President Rodrigo Duterte would veto several items in the proposed national budget for 2021.

This, as GMA News Online reported that President Duterte will sign the PHP 4.506-trillion national budget for 2021 on December 28 in Malacañang.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Friday declined to disclose the items that would be vetoed by President Duterte and said that he wasn’t at liberty to reveal such information.

According to Roque, it was expected that the President would also approve the recommendations of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

As per the report, the national budget for 2021 was expected to fund measures aimed at improving the Philippines’ healthcare system, ensuring food security, increasing investments in public and digital infrastructure, and helping communities cope with the coronavirus pandemic.

Around PHP 23 billion had been realigned by lawmakers for the rehabilitation of communities affected by the strong typhoons that hit the Philippines this year.

Moreover, Congress approved an allocation of PHP 72.5 billion for COVID-19 vaccines.
