President Duterte would have an emergency meeting with the IATF and infectious disease experts, according to Malacañang.
Malacañang on Friday said that President Rodrigo Duterte would have an emergency meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and infectious disease experts on Saturday.
This, as the President, together with the government’s COVID-19 task force and infectious disease experts, would discuss the new strain of coronavirus disease that emerged in the United Kingdom.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Friday said that the emergency meeting would take place at the Malacañang Golf (MALAGO) Clubhouse.
According to Roque, the Philippine government might decide whether to extend the travel ban on the United Kingdom or to add more countries to the list after Denmark and Singapore confirmed cases of the new strain of coronavirus disease found in Britain.
In a separate message, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said that President Duterte would cut short his Christmas break in Davao City in order to focus on the Philippine government’s response to the new strain of COVID-19 which was said to be more infectious.
“Very much concerned kami ni Pangulo,” Senator Go said.
It was last Tuesday when President Duterte ordered the suspension of all flights from the United Kingdom from December 24 until December 31 following the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID).
More than 50 countries had suspended flights from the United Kingdom in attempts to contain the new strain of coronavirus disease.
