Contract of Kris Bernal w/ GMA-7 Not Renewed by Kapuso Network
KRIS BERNAL – The actress revealed her side on GMA-7 Network following the non-renewal of her contract.
In the Philippine showbiz industry, celebrities have different contracts. Some have signed exclusive contracts with their home networks while others are open to accept project offers from other networks.
When it reaches the expiry and there is a renewal offer, a celebrity has the choice to stay in their home network or to transfer to another network. They can also work as freelancers that allows them to accept work offers from different networks.
Currently, one of the freelancers is actress Kris Bernal. Her contract with GMA-7 expired last September and the Kapuso network has yet to offer a renewal.
Based on a report on Pep, Kris admitted that she was hurt when her contract was not renewed. It is her first time to be a freelancer being in the industry for 13 years.
According to the actress, there were really weeks when she was depressed and she was questioning herself what she has done. She also did not go out.
“Hindi ako lumalabas ng bahay. Hindi ako nag-aayos. Hindi ako nagpapakita to anyone. Kasi nga, parang I couldn’t figure it out at first,” the actress said.

Meanwhile, based on the article, Kris Bernal assured that she has no bad feelings against GMA-7. She stressed that she understand the situation of the network amid the pandemic.
“I wholeheartedly understood GMA, kasi nga we’re in the middle of a pandemic. And I understand na may mga contract artists pa sila na kailangan nilang tutukan, kailangan nila bigyan ng trabaho,” Kris said.
Currently, Kris is a freelancer and is doing a TV series, Ate ng Ate Ko, aired in TV5. Despite that she is not under an exclusive contract with GMA-7 now, she still asked permission from the Kapuso network over her project with the Kapatid network.
