President Putin decided to receive Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, according to a Kremlin spokesperson.
A Kremlin spokesperson on Sunday told a Russian state TV channel that Russian President Vladimir Putin would receive the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
Russia recently launched a voluntary vaccination program with Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine earlier in December.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Sunday said on his website that people aged 60 and above may start to apply for shots on Monday, the day after the Russian health ministry stated that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine was approved for use by elderly people following a separate trial.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Rossiya 1 TV Channel that President Putin would receive the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
“He said he will be vaccinated, he made this decision and was waiting until all formalities are completed,” Peskov said.
President Putin, 68, said earlier that the Russian COVID-19 vaccine was safe and effective and he saw no reason not to be vaccinated, adding that he’s waiting until the vaccine became available.

President Putin had mainly worked remotely, held meetings through videolink, and had limited travel since the start of the outbreak in Russia.
President Putin said in August that one of his daughters had taken part in the clinical trial of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine and felt well afterward.
