Health worker in US suffered a serious allergic reaction after getting a COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech
A health worker in the United States (US) on Wednesday suffered a serious allergic reaction after getting a COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.
With this, the said person was then “hospitalized but stable”, according to a report on The New York Times.
In a report on The New York Times, the said person received a shot last Tuesday, adding that Pfizer confirmed that it was working with local authorities in order to investigate the said incident.
Two health workers in UK had similar allergic reactions which caused the government there to tell people to avoid getting vaccinated if they had a history of severe allergies.
The US regulator had issued an emergency use authorization with the warning that people who had known allergies to ingredients inside the COVID-19 vaccine should avoid it.
“We don’t yet have all the details of the report from Alaska about a potential serious allergic reactions but are actively working with local health authorities to assess. We will closely monitor all reports suggestive of serious allergic reactions following vaccination and update labeling language if needed,” a Pfizer spokesperson said.

Volunteers for Pfizer’s clinical trial were excluded if they had a history of allergic reactions to vaccines or components of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Overall, the human clinical trial found no serious safety issues, but regulators and the company were continuing to monitor for adverse events after inoculation.
The United States was inoculating some three million people this week with the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech and hoped to reach a total of 20 million people this month if another COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna was approved.
