Residents in Quezon City were being monitored after returning from evacuation centers.
Thousands of residents in Quezon City who returned home from evacuation centers were being closely monitored for possible COVID-19 infection.
This, as Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Friday had instructed the city’s health department to conduct strict monitoring and supervision of about 6,000 residents — particularly those residents who were evacuated during Typhoon “Rolly” — for coronavirus symptoms.
Belmonte also said that they would make sure that any possible COVID-19 infection would be prevented from spreading further to the communities.
City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) head Dr. Rolando Cruz assured that the city’s contact tracing team was keeping a close watch on the evacuees.
Cruz also said that the evacuees would be contacted and asked about their health status periodically in the next two weeks — particularly if they’re experiencing any flu-like or COVID-related symptoms such as colds, cough, and fever.
“We’ll exhaust all our means to contact and monitor our evacuees, ensuring that everyone is covered“, he said.

In a report on Manila Bulletin, those who became a suspect case would be scheduled for a COVID-19 swab test and would be transferred to any of the nearest barangay quarantine or HOPE community caring facilities.
Moreover, Cruz said that Quezon city had sufficient contact tracers and personnel in order to address all evacuees.
Previously the Department of Health had recommended the symptoms screening and monitoring for evacuees instead of COVID-19 testing.
