Typhoon evacuee tests positive for COVID-19 in Marikina
At least one (1) evacuee tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid testing conducted by the local government of Marikina City.
Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said in an interview that the patient is a 68-year-old male evacuee who’s temporarily sheltered at the Barangay Barangka Elementary School.
According to the city mayor, the patient has been placed under isolation at the Marikina Hotel.
The patient is receiving medical support since he has comorbidities or has multiple medical conditions.
“Lahat ng mga nakasalamuha niya at nakasama niya sa evacuation center batay dun sa contact tracing na 13 katao ay negative naman,” he said.
“Tinest din natin ang kanyang limang family members, at mabuti naman na ang lumabas sa PCR testing ay negative lahat; iyong asawa niya na 62 years old at ang tatlong anak niya,” he added.
Marikina City is among the worst-hit areas brought by massive floods due to the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.
At least P30 billion worth of goods and properties were ravaged by the said typhoon.
At present, more than 15,000 people are being sheltered in different evacuation centers within the city.
To monitor/combat the insurgence of coronavirus disease in the city, 190 contact tracers were placed in various evacuation sites.
The local government of Marikina City has also established rapid testing centers at every evacuation center.
Meanwhile, Marikina has 183 active cases of COVID-19 as of November 18.
