Binay: “Sadly, the closure of ABS CBN… has left a noticeable void”
Ex-Vice President Jejomar Binay lamented the “consequences” of ABS-CBN closure in the disaster coverage particularly the recent devastation of Super Typhoon Rolly.
Earlier, the Kapamilya Network trended online.
It has been lauded for covering previous major disasters that occurred in the country which is said to be a big help amid the calamity the country is facing.
“The onslaught of Typhoon Rolly has once again reminded us of the indispensable role of media during times of natural calamities… Sadly, the closure of ABS CBN, including its radio and regional network, has left a noticeable void that has yet to be filled by the other networks,” Jejomar Binay said.
“For decades, media has been performing this role, often at great risk to the lives of its field reporters and crew, in order to provide our people with timely and relevant information. In far-flung areas beyond the immediate reach of government, such information from media can spell the difference between life and death,” Binay added.
In the later part of his interview, the former vice president Jejomar Binay stressed that the country has suffered “tragic consequences” because of ABS-CBN closure.
It can be recalled that a few months ago, the country’s largest broadcasting network shut down after it failed to renew its franchise.
