DOH Sec. Duque credited President Duterte’s commendation to on-ground surveillance teams.
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco T. Duque III on Wednesday credited President Rodrigo Duterte’s commendation on COVID-19 surveillance and tracking of possible outbreaks to on-ground surveillance teams.
This, after President Duterte recognized the Department of Health in his “Talk to the People” last November 2.
In a press release on Wednesday, Duque thanked President Duterte and credited the success to on-ground surveillance teams — local chief executives with their respective local governments, local Epidemiology and Surveillance Units, and Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) — who worked diligently in order to carry out their duties in helping stop the spread of coronavirus disease by detecting and tracking cases of infection.
In addition, Duque explained that the local health facilities served as the “COVID sensors”, while the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams were the “navigators of the local contact tracing teams” who regularly coordinated with the local Epidemiology Surveillance Units.

Duque added that they can’t prevent or minimize the spread of coronavirus disease without vigilant tracking and surveillance, adding that it can’t be done without their local surveillance teams.
Moreover, Duque encouraged the public to not let the efforts of their disease surveillance teams — frontline healthcare workers on preventing the spread of COVID-19 — go futile.
He also encouraged the public to continue to BIDA Solusyon in their workplaces, their homes, their communities, and everywhere else they go.
“Napaka-simple ng ating BIDA Solusyon strategies, ngunit napakalaki po ng maitutulong nito sa ating laban kontra COVID-19”, Duque said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health had recorded 987 newly-reported COVID-19 cases as of 4:00 p.m. of November 4, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 388,137.
