CHED Calls for Class Suspension In Regions Hit By Typhoon Ulysses
CHED – The Commission on Higher Education is calling for the suspension of classes in regions hit by Typhoon Ulysses.
The impacts of Typhoon Ulysses is far beyond what was initially expected of it. It hit several areas in the Philippines which have yet to recover from Typhoon Rolly.
Rolly caused millions in the damages in infrastructures and, worst, it left deaths in several areas. Several cities were only starting to recover from the said tropical storm but were hit again by another strong typhoon.
Ulysses brought heavy rains in several areas including Rizal, Marikina, and the province of Catanduanes. In Catanduanes, it brought both flood and landslide.
Some 30,000 homes in Marikina submerged in flood water amid the onslaught of Ulysses. Mayor Marcelino Teodoro have even called to the national government for help as many residents are on their rooftops waiting for a rescue.

Prior to the heavy downfall, many residents have already been evacuated. However, the rise in the water level was unexpected that even those who are living in areas not prone to flood were put at risk by the rising water level.
Rizal houses were also submerged deep in flood water. Some residents had to climb their rooftops too as the water level rose.
Amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses, CHED called for the suspension of classes in regions hit by the tropical storm. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, here are the typhoon-hit areas:
- Metro Manila
- Bicol
- Cagayan Valley
- Calabarzon
- Central Luzon
- Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
- Ilocos
- Mimaropa
Based on the report, CHED is calling for universities and colleges in these areas to coordinate with the local government units in the halting of classes. Higher Education Chairman Propero de Vera also called on private colleges and universities to make adjustments in their course requirements.
A lot of students were greatly affected by the impacts of Typhoon Ulysses. Currently, the Palace is urging the public to stay indoors and monitor the updates about the weather.
