Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go today restated his call for the creation of a new department — the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR).

According to Sen. Bong Go, the Philippines experienced at least 20 typhoons every year, resulting in landslides and flashfloods, adding that some parts of the country also experienced fire incidents and earthquakes as well.

Given the frequency of natural disasters and calamities in the Philippines, the senator said that it’s time to pass his Senate Bill 205 which sought to create the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR).

The senator added that the proposed new department would provide faster government response to calamities and natural disasters — including earthquakes and typhoons — by putting all related agencies together under a single department.

According to Sen. Bong Go, this was the reason why he had long recommended and repeatedly said that they should establish a department with a secretary-level in charge that would manage the preparedness, response, and resilience measures to protect the lives and welfare of the countrymen.

Bong Go said.

Meanwhile, the NTC issued a memorandum ordering telecommunications companies to be ready for Typhoon “Rolly”.
