Malay Mayor Says Few Tourists Visit Boracay on 1st Day of Reopening
Malay, Aklan Mayor Frolibar Bautista reported that only few tourists have visited the Boracay Island during the first day of reopening.
On Thursday (October 1, 2020), Mayor Bautista that only few visitors have arrived in the popular tourist destination on the first day of its reopening. The island is accepting tourists from areas under general community quarantine.
The Aklan mayor said that the visitors need to comply with all the requirements before entering the famous haven. He also explained that the stricter rules might cause a fewer number of tourists visiting the island.
“Hindi pa naman masyadong marami, siyempre alam mo naman may mga kaunting requirements na kailangan, so ‘yun ang nakapagbigay kaunti na parang inconvenient,” Bautista said.
However, the government official reminded the public that the island’s stricter policy is for the safety of everyone. The stricter protocols make the travel time for tourists doubled.
Bautista said that the tourists heading to Boracay Island have to land at Caticlan Airport. All tourists have to take the same route to ensure that they will undergo screening.
The individuals planning to visit the popular destinations have to register at www.aklan.gov.ph and required to submit negative COVID-19 test results, ID and confirmed hotel booking at [email protected].
