Actor JM de Guzman shared how coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic helped him gain his coping skills for his panic disorder.

This, as he opened up on how his mental health has been during the pandemic. He disclosed that the onset of the coronavirus pandemic was very hard on him since he had limited ways of coping.

In an interview at Pilipino Star Ngayon’s webinar, JM shared that he just got out of rehab when the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) began and had just started to live by himself.

According to him, it was really hard for him because of his “panic disorder” and he had limited ways to cope due to COVID-19, but he didn’t see it ugly because it seemed like his coping skills had just increased.

In a report on Latest Chika, the actor was happy to say that he felt stronger and “on top” of his disorder and the challenges he faced despite the rough start during the coronavirus pandemic.

When asked how JM decided to reach out for help, the actor shared that his turning point was reaching rock bottom, wherein he couldn’t even muster the strength to get out of bed.

I cannot even pray because of my thoughts so that time sabi ko wala nag papatawid na ako so yun nag reach out ako. Tinulungan naman ako ng family ko”, JM said.

He then shared that his family was part of his problems so they all had to undergo therapy as well in order to learn how to express empathy for each other.

The actor then reminded those who were experiencing the same that there’s a higher power that would never give them a battle they can’t conquer.

Last August, the actor captured the moment of his panic attack on video in hopes of making others who could relate to him not feel alone.
