Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano No Longer the Speaker of the House of Representatives
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Taguig City-Pateros Representative was ousted as the House Speaker.
Recently, there are divisions inside the House of Representatives over the speakership issues. The two main personalities involved are House Speaker Alan Cayetano and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.
Velasco and his camp are pushing for the term-sharing agreement between him and Cayetano. The Marinduque Representative will start his term as the House Speaker this October 15 under the said agreement.
On the side of Cayetano, some lawmakers supporting him stress that a change of leadership during these times is not a good move.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has not taken any side on the issue. The concern of the President is the passing of the 2021 national budget which might be delayed due to the issues in the lower house.
According to Malacanang, the President is not interfering on the issue. The President has already warned the lawmakers to fix it or he will be the one to do so.
Presidential son Paolo Duterte, a congressman of Davao, has also not taken any side on the issue while the Hugpong ng Pagbabago party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte supports Velasco.
Recently, an update about the issue crossed the surface. Based on a report of Aksyon Radyo, Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano was removed as the House Speaker.
According to the report, the House Speaker post was declared vacant during a session of the congress held at the Celebrity Sports Center in Quezon City. The motion was made by Buhay Rep. Lito Atienza.
