The national government would give priority to local manufacturers in procuring PPE, according to DOH.
The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said that the government would give priority to local manufacturers of personal protective equipment (PPE) in procuring such equipment.
This, as DOH Spokesperson Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online briefing that the department continued to interact with the Confederation of Wearable Exporters of the Philippines (CONWEP) for PPEs.
According to Vergeire, they had talked to them and they had committed to produce and help the government in the local production of PPEs.
Also, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) was said to be in talks with other suppliers of PPEs.
Under the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act” (Bayanihan 2) proposal, local manufacturers of PPEs should be given priority in terms of providing PPE to frontliners.
Vergeire also said that with the start of implementation of Bayanihan 2, they would be able to urge local PPE suppliers to provide for the government.

The lack of personal protective equipment in medical facilities was one of health care workers’ leading complaints, especially since they’re more exposed to the threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Based on DOH data last September 7, over 7,000 health workers had been hit by coronavirus disease.
As of September 9, 2020, the Department of Health recorded 245,143 total cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) wherein 55,614 were recorded as total active cases, 185,543 were recorded as total recoveries, and 3,986 were recorded as total fatalities.
