President Duterte still trust PhilHealth CEO Ricardo Morales
President Rodrigo Duterte won’t fire Ricardo Morales, the chief-executive-officer (CEO) of Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth) without evidence of corruption.
The Senate and House of Representatives as well as the Palace are conducting an investigation over anomalies including corruption within the state-run insurance company.
“The President has said that he will not fire him unless there’s evidence and I think the Senate now is in the process of documenting this evidence,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
According to Roque, he was informed by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go that President Duterte still trusts Morales amid the controversy.
“I think after the evidence are unearthed, the President will move and do the correct thing,” the presidential spox said.
“He knows that people are counting on PhilHealth at the time of a pandemic and we cannot afford the citizenry to lose their faith and trust in the agency that is most relevant to them when there is a threat of disease,” Roque added.
On Tuesday, Ricardo Morales admitted that his efforts to unveil corruption within the agency were not enough.
Recently, resigned PhilHealth anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Montes Keith revealed in a Senate hearing that a whopping 15 billion worth of funds have been pocketed by the officials in a “syndicate-like” transactions within the agency.
