Consul General Confirms OFW in Jeddah Died During Taking of Swab Samples for COVID-19 Test

OFW IN JEDDAH – An overseas Filipino worker in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia died during the swab testing for COVID-19.

Undeniably, a lot of Filipinos are out of the Philippines right now amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of them are working abroad while others are already permanently residing in other countries.

For those who are working abroad, it is really a huge challenge to be away from their families in these trying times. The disease is affecting more than 200 countries and territories now.

Filipinos abroad cannot easily go home to the Philippines now as other countries have their precautionary measures as well. Many Pinoys abroad were unfortunately infected by the coronavirus disease.

Based on a report on GMA Network’s Balitambayan, in Jeddah, 77 overseas Filipino workers were placed in the consul department. They are set to undergo COVID-19 testing.

However, an OFW in Jeddah recently died during the swab testing for COVID-19. According to the report, the fatality is one of those 77 people in the consul department.

According to Consul General Edgar Badajos, the OFW in Jeddah was being tested for COVID-19 when the call of nature took place. The OFW asked permission to go to the comfort room but was not able to get out since then.

The authorities tried to open the door and the OFW was rushed to the hospital. However, the person later on died and the cause of death has yet to be found.

Reportedly, all the OFWs who tested positive for COVID-19 are already isolated. The office of the Consul is already close until next week for disinfection of the area.

I thanked God I worked for 30 years in Saudi Arabia, God let me home without any sickness..i am enjoying my grandchildren at my senior age dealing my daily life with the help of my prescribed maintenance medications. Only God can tell how long will I stay in this world. OFW life is full of challenged.
