Gossipers can be used for barangay contact tracing, according to Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 said that gossipers could be used for barangay contact tracing and would serve as contact tracers in their respective areas.
This, as Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Chief Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, a member of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force in Central Visayas, shared an idea about using rumormongers as contact tracers.
Gossipers were commonly known as villains in the community as they were known for being talkative.
However, their ability might be useful amid the pandemic as they will serve as contract tracers in their respective communities.
Ferro said the “tsismosa brigade” can be used just because it was well-known in the community because of the gossipers’ curiosity and inquisitive, especially when they opted to track people who suffered from coronavirus disease.

He added that he just heard that the said idea was what government officials in Bulacan were thinking of in order to get information quickly.
Recently, contact tracing became one of the best weapons in order to prevent local transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Cebu City already has at least 134 contact tracing teams which were comprised of police officers, firefighters, and medical personnel. Moreover, barangays in Cebu City also sent staff in order to train them as contact tracers in every community.
