Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Duterte’s statement about disinfecting face masks using gasoline was a “joke only”.
The Palace said that President Rodrigo Duterte was “joke only” when he stated about disinfecting face masks using gasoline.
This, as Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday said in a televised briefing that the public should know that the President was fond of giving jokes, adding that President Duterte’s statement was a “joke only”.
Roque’s remark came after President Duterte said in a late Monday night address that was aired on Tuesday morning that face masks can be reused after disinfection, in which the President said that it can be done through alcohol, Lysol, or gasoline.
Moreover, Roque said that Duterte’s intention in order to protect the people from coronavirus disease was clear given his desire to give face masks for free.

Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire previously said that surgical masks and N95 masks were for single use only, however, the public were allowed to wash their cloth masks for disinfection.
She also mentioned that under the DOH’s memorandum on the rational use of protective equipment, those people with coronavirus symptoms should wear their surgical mask, while those people who worked in hospitals should use N95 masks.
In addition, Vergeire said that a cloth mask can be used for those people outside the hospital with no coronavirus symptoms.
