DITO Telecommunity To Miss July 8 Technical Launch Due To This

DITO Telecommunity was likely to miss its July 8 technical launch due to this.

DITO Telecommunity was likely to miss the scheduled deadline — which already set on July 8 this year — for its “technical launch”.

This, as Adel Tamano, the chief administrative officer of DITO Telecommunity, blamed the delay to movement restrictions due to community quarantine measures that were imposed in order to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from mid-March to end of May 2020.

According to Tamano, the pandemic and community quarantine measures prevented the company from its full rollout, adding that the company was doing its best in order to get back on track.

Its technical launch — whose deadline was indicated on its license from the national government — marked the start of a government-mandated audit on its commitments. The process, through an independent auditor, would include measuring DITO’s internet speed and coverage.

As reported on Inquirer, this was different from DITO Telecommunity’s commercial launch wherein DITO could sell its service to its paying subscribers, adding that its commercial launch was earlier set on March 2021.

Last 2018, DITO won a government-led bidding exercise in order to introduce new competition and to compete with Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc.

DITO was the third major telecommunication company in the Philippines.
