Riders Involved in Motorcycle Pillion-Riding Accidents Using Faulty Material, DILG Official Says

A DILG official said that the riders who were involved in motorcycle pillion-riding accidents were using faulty material.

On Saturday (July 25, 2020), the Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya of the Department of the Interior and Local Government defended the measure requiring motorcycle riders to install barriers to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease.

Malaya said that the Bohol local government no accidents had happened after they have allowed motorcycle riders to have passengers on the pillion. He also said that the riders involved in accidents might have used barriers with wrong designs and made of faulty materials.

“Inimbestigahan po namin and lumalabas po na faulty po ang ginagamit na barrier dahil may mga nagva-viral na diumano may nagkaka-aksidente,” Malaya said.

The DILG official explained that the barrier design proposed by Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap underwent a thorough study and is safe.

The government official also informed the public that they are willing to accept design proposals.

“Bukas po tayo sa ibang disenyo. Kung hindi sila sang-ayon magsumite sila ng disenyo. Naninindigan po ang NTF (National Task Force) na kailangan ang barrier dahil ang physical distancing [kailangan],” Malaya added.
