The Senate was currently on ‘semi-lockdown’, according to Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday said in a message to reporters that the Senate was currently on a “semi-lockdown”.
This, after Sotto earlier confirmed that two of its employees had tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a message that was sent to reporters, Sotto said that the Senate was on “semi-lockdown” as he was briefed by the Senate Secretary of the request of some of its employees, adding that there were also hearings and worked to be held by the offices of Senators.
Sotto also said that the Senate can’t declare a total lockdown, explaining that the salaries of its employees won’t be processed in a total lockdown scenario. He added that employees had an option whether or not to report to the office.
Moreover, Sotto said that employees who were exposed to two infected employees had already passed their 14-day self-quarantine.

The Senate Medical and Dental Bureau had reported a total of 16 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease from the upper chamber of Congress wherein 10 out of 16 infected employees were from the Secretariat and the remaining six were from the office of the senators.
As per the report, the Senate Medical and Dental Bureau reported 13 recoveries, two active cases, and one fatality as of this writing.
