Here’s a reaction of Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar regarding Senator Pangilinan’s advice to brand Independence Day protest actions as “mañanita”.
Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, the chief of Joint Task Force COVID Shield, reacted to Senator Francis Pangilinan’s advice to brand Independence Day protest actions as “mañanita”.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Eleazar said that the protesters’ timing was seemed to be wrong just because mass gathering was still prohibited regardless of any protests. He also said that even the Joint Task Force COVID Shield was also observing the prohibition on mass gathering.
Eleazar added that the Joint Task Force COVID Shield will investigate if there’s a violation on mass gathering.
Eleazar’s reaction came after Senator Francis Pangilinan advised protesters to brand Independence Day protest actions as “mañanita” — a term used by Police Major General Debold, the chief of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), who faced criticisms last month for celebrating his birthday despite the prohibition on the mass gathering.
Earlier, Eleazar encouraged protesters who were planning to conduct protest on Independence Day to “think twice” before deciding to push through with their mass protests.

Meanwhile, the Palace also called on protesters planning to hold mass protests to concur with the celebration of Independence Day, which will happen on June 12, to express their sentiments instead of holding protests on social media.
