Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake hits Mexico
A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit Santa María Zapotitlán, Mexico earlier today, killing at least 5 people.
Earthquakes hit without prior signs/warnings most of the time. Recently, several places in the country were struck off by quakes with different magnitudes.
Among the recent jolts that occurred around the world are the series of quakes in Mexico which include a Magnitude 5.0 and Magnitude 4.6.
Meanwhile, based on the latest earthquake bulletin of the United States Geological Survey, the Magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico earlier hit at a depth of 26.3 kilometers.
The powerful Magnitude 7.4 earthquake left massive devastation in the city damaging buildings and blocking the roads.
According to Reuters via a report published on ABS-CBN News, Oaxaca’s Pacific coast and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warned of a possible tsunami in the affected areas.
The epicenter of the Magnitude 7.4 earthquake was located at 69 km (43 miles) northeast of the town of Pochutla.
Lumen defined Magnitude 7 with an intensity of 8 or higher as “damage slight in specially designed structures; considerable damage in ordinary substantial buildings with partial collapse. Damage great in poorly built structures. Fall of chimneys, factory stacks, columns, monuments, walls. Heavy furniture overturned.”
